Community Partners Unite in Support of AB 1005 at Standley Aquatic Center

On Friday, July 11th, the Prevent Drowning Foundation of San Diego (PDFSD) was honored to stand alongside Assemblymember Laurie Davies and community partners at the Standley Aquatic Center in San Diego for an important press event supporting AB 1005.

Assemblymember Davies, author of AB 1005, joined leaders from the Drowning Prevention Foundation and the California Coalition for Children’s Safety and Health to highlight the importance of this bill. AB 1005 strengthens partnerships between schools, drowning prevention advocates, and child safety organizations to educate parents and students about water safety, drowning prevention, and the life-saving skill of swimming.

Key elements of AB 1005 include:

  • Expanding parent and student education on water safety and drowning prevention.
  • Building partnerships between schools and safety organizations.
  • Developing a statewide swim lesson directory.
  • Establishing a swim lesson voucher program to ensure access for all children.

Events like this underscore the power of collaboration. By coming together, local organizations, advocates, and legislators are working to create a safer California where every child has the opportunity to learn to swim.

PDFSD is proud to be part of this collective effort and grateful to Assemblymember Davies and partner organizations for their leadership in moving this critical bill forward.
