Another Splashing Success: 34th Annual Pier Jump Wraps Another Summer of Water Safety

Another successful summer—and another iconic leap from the Scripps Pier—is officially in the books! On Tuesday, July 29, the 34th Annual San Diego Junior Lifeguard (SDJG) Pier Jump II brought together hundreds of Junior Lifeguards, families, and community members to celebrate ocean confidence, youth achievement, and a shared commitment to saving lives.

More than just a thrilling tradition, the Pier Jump is a fundraiser with a mission. Event proceeds benefit the Prevent Drowning Foundation of San Diego, funding:

  • Scholarships for SDJG participation
  • Free swim lessons for youth without access
  • Water safety education programs across the region

Timed just days after World Drowning Prevention Day (July 25), this year’s Pier Jump amplified the urgent call to address drowning — a silent epidemic that claims over 236,000 lives each year. Locally, we continue to work toward equitable access to swim lessons, lifesaving programs, and rip current safety education through the proven “Flip, Float, Follow” technique.
